Good, on the other hand, is credited with a positive substantiality. But, as psychological experience shows, ‘good’ and ‘evil’ are opposite poles of a moral judgment which, as such, originates in man. A judgment can be made about a thing if its opposite is equally real and possible. The opposite of a seeming evil can only be a seeming good, and an evil that lacks substance can only be contrasted with a good that is equally nonsubstantial."
