"“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves.” 1 John 1: 8-10 “Self-deception is such a fascinating problem. It is amazing how hard the mind works to keep us safe, that’s a good thing but if it is trying to keep us safe from a guilty conscience, safe from the realization that we need to change and the only way to do that is to come unto Christ, then that’s the MOST dangerous kind of self-deception of all. So, to come to a point where we can be true with ourselves and acknowledge the sin that is within us. One of the dangers of self-deception is that we tend to take our flaws and project them onto someone else. For example, when we hurt someone, attack someone, or betray someone we feel so bad about it, the mind kicks in and to protect ourselves from those guilty feelings it starts to flood our mind with thoughts of self-deception to JUSTIFY OUR ACTIONS. We turn our victim into our attacker. We try to come up with some reason to say they deserve the treatment I gave them. But do you sense the irony there that self-deception is taking my sins and PROJECTING THEM ONTO the person that I have offended?”"
