"We know very little of Manichaeism as yet, but it was once a very powerful religion in the East, and it also reached far into the West. It was founded by Mani, a Persian, in the third century A.D. Recent German expeditions, the Turfan expedition in particular, have unearthed a number of Manichaean remains in India; and a translation of a Manichaean book into Chinese has been discovered, showing that those ideas were known as far East as China."
