"O wretched man that I am! Yea, my heart sorroweth because of my flesh; my soul grieveth because of mine iniquities 2 Nephi 4:17 Is it a bad thing that we come to recognize our failings before God? How else can we repent of them if we can’t see them or don’t feel any sorrow for them? I believe that what Nephi is describing in these verses is an eternal truth, that the closer we draw to God, the more aware we become of what we still need to repent of and fix in our lives. This sensitivity is a blessing from the Lord to help us make progress. We only become aware of our failings and shortfalls because we become desirous of repenting of them."
