Jessica I learned a valuable lesson during a cooking class in high school. I sat down one day and sitting beside me was a boy I had known for awhile. He leaned over to me and said four words I will never forget, “I got your back.” I was puzzled and asked him to clarify what he meant and he said, ”If anyone ever tries to mess with you, I’ve got your back!” I felt confident in my heart that I wasn't going to need his protection, but it did feel good to know someone was watching out for me.
I live in a small town where American football is the heart of the community. As a family we spend many nights at practices and games. One night I watched our quarterback throw a pass to our receiver. As the receiver tucked the ball and began to run, twist and turn through the oncoming opponents, I paid close attention to our team. The receiver knew he could only succeed with the help of his teammates. He needed to run, they needed to block.
Life is like a football game. All of us are trying to make it to the end zone, but we can’t do it without the assistance of others. Like Doug Pederson, the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, said, “An individual can make a difference, but a team can make a miracle.”
