Jessica One morning I stared out the window and watched a budding tulip as the rain pounded against its delicate petals. It seemed so fragile and the rain was relentless. I watched as the wind caused the stem to bend and sway and I became concerned that under all the raging elements this beautiful flower would break. To my surprise, the next morning as I passed that same window, I noticed that the tulip had bloomed and was a beautiful vibrant orange. It no longer was drooped over, but was standing tall and firm, basking in the sun. What I thought might break it, actually brought out its beauty and strength.
That little tulip has been a constant reminder to me that there will be rainy days throughout life. There will be moments where the wind howls and blows to the point we may feel one more gust will break us, but if we are patient and dig our roots deep, we may be surprised what we have become when the sun returns.
In the Broadway play Les Miserable, Victor Hugo wrote an inspired phrase, “And the rain will make the flowers grow.” Even though it may take time, I hope we all can find the growth from the rain and the beauty it has produced within us.
